Lake Maninjau

The Maninjau caldera was formed by a volcanic eruption estimated to have occurred around 52,000 years ago.Deposits from the eruption have been found in a radial distribution around Maninjau extending up to 50 km to the east, 75 km to the southeast, and west to the present coastline. The deposits are estimated to be distributed over 8500 km² and have a volume of 220–250 km³. The caldera has a length of 20 km and a width of 8 km.

Batang Hari River

The Batang Hari is the longest river in Sumatra, Indonesia. It originates in the Minangkabau highlands and flows to the east coast of Sumatra. The city of Jambi is located at the mouth of the river.

Polonia International Airport

Polonia International Airport (IndonesianBandar Udara Internasional Polonia) (IATAMESICAOWIMM) is an airport located in MedanNorth SumatraIndonesia, about 2 km from the downtown. It is the first international airport in Medan, the other being planned is Kuala Namu International Airport. It serves flights to several Indonesian and Malaysian cities, along with a flight to Singapore and Thailand. Previous international flights have been opened to Hong KongTaipeiAmsterdamPhuketChennaiJohor BahruMalacca and Ipoh. In terms of passenger numbers, Polonia is the fourth largest airport in Indonesia after Soekarno-HattaJuanda, and Ngurah Rai. Passenger service charges for each departed through domestic terminal is IDR 35,000 ($4.1), while IDR 75,000 ($8.8) for international terminal.

History

At least as early as 1938, Palembang was served by a civil airport at Talang Betutu, operating as a Customs Aerodrome equipped with wireless and direction finding equipment, and basic ground facilities. The airport was re-built by the Japanese army during the Japanese occupation between 1942-1943. On July 15, 1963, the airport is a joint airfield, for both civilian and military purposes. Then on August 21, 1975 the status of this airport became Talang Betutu Civil Airports. On April 3, 1985, the airport changed its name to Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport.
Effective 1 April 1991, the airport officially managed by the Management of Perum Angkasa Pura II. On January 2, 1992 Management Perum Angkasa Pura II changed its status into PT (Persero) Angkasa Pura II.
At the time of South Sumatra Province was chosen as the host of PON XVI in 2004, the government seeks to enlarge the capacity of the airport as well as change the status of this airport into an international airport. New terminal building Airport Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II finally completed and inaugurated on September 27, 2005.

Development

The airport has officially become an international airport and can accommodate the wide-body aircraft on September 27, 2005. The development of the airport started on September 18, 2003 with a total cost of Rp366, 7 billion from the Japan International Bank Corporation IDR 251,9 billion and matching funds from the state budget amounting to IDR 114,8 billion.
Between the development undertaken is an extension of the runway along the 300 meters x 60 meters to 3,000 meters x 60 meters, construction vehicle parking area of 20,000 meters which can accommodate 1,000 vehicles as well as the construction of passenger terminal building of three floors covering 13,000 square meters which can accommodate 1,250 passengers, equipped aerobridges and cargo terminals and other support buildings covering an area of 1900 square meters.
The result of this development makes International Airport Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II can accommodate Airbus A330Boeing 747 and other wide-body aircraft. In addition, the flow of passengers is projected to rise from 7,720 passengers to 16,560 passengers. After that there will be construction of toll roads Indralaya-Palembang-Sultan Mahmud Airport Badarudin II to facilitate access to the Airport.

Musi River (Indonesia)


The Musi River is located in southern SumatraIndonesia.
It is about 750 kilometers long, and drains most of South Sumatra province. After flowing through Palembang, the provincial capital, it joins with the several other rivers, including the Banyuasin River, to form a delta near the city of Sungsang. The river, dredged to a depth of about 6.5 meters, is navigable by large ships as far as Palembang, which is the site of major port facilities used primarily for the export of petroleumrubber, and coal.
The river mouth was the site of the SilkAir Flight 185 plane crash which killed all 104 passengers and crew on board in 1997.

Berastagi


Berastagi (meaning "rice store") is a town and subdistrict of Karo Regency situated on crossroads on the main route linking the Karo highlands ofNorthern Sumatra to the coastal city of Medan. The village rose to significance when Dutch settlers in Sumatra opened a boarding school there in the 1920s.
The main economic activities in Berastagi, centre on the colourful fruit and vegetable market and on tourism. Berastagi is famous for its passion fruit. The main attractions of the town are the two active volcanoes; Gunung Sibayak, with its hot springs, and Gunung Sinabung.
The town is also a stop on the way to Lake Toba. The dominant ethnic and linguisitic group is Karo Batak.
Berastagi is 11 km from the capital Karo Regency government in Kabanjahe.

Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium

Gelora Sriwijaya Stadium also known as Jakabaring Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium located in Jakabaring Sport City complex inPalembangSouth SumatraIndonesia. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium holds 40,000 spectators. The construction begin in 2001 and finished in 2004 to host the Palembang 2004 National Games. It is the fourth largest stadium in Indonesia, after Gelora Bung Karno in JakartaPalaran Stadium in Samarinda and Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya. The stadium initially named as Jakabaring stadium after the location of the stadium in southern outskirt of Palembang. However later the stadium was renamed "Gelora Sriwijaya", to honor and celebrate the 7th—13th century Indonesian empire of Srivijaya.


Design


The fireworks after the torch lighting marked the beginning of2011 Southeast Asian Games in the stadium, 11-11-2011.

The capacity of this stadium is 40,000 spectators, with four tribune (A, B, C, and D) around the main field. The size of main soccer field is 68 x 105 metres, surrounded by eight lanes athletics track and field with red gravel surface. The main tribune on west and east side (A and B) is covered with two large steel arch. Two bulbous blue roofs supported by these arches took form of the sail of the ship, symbolizesSrivijaya as the maritime empire.On the main outer wall on west and east side adorned with songket textile motifs as the cultural identity of Palembang. The main score screen is located on southern tribune (tribune D), while the fire cauldron is located in southern side of the main field between the soccer field and athletic tracks. This stadium also contains three standard squash field
